Aymar Jean Christian (uh-MAR) is a doctoral candidate in the Annenberg School for Communication at University of Pennsylvania, focusing on new media and cultural production. He researches how producers and organizations create and distribute web series, integrating scholarship on film, television and media industry studies. At Penn, he also earned a certificate in cinema studies, focusing on contemporary American film. He has been published in Newsweek, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, The Root, the journals Continuum, Transformative Works & Culture, First Monday, Cinema Journal and Communication, Culture and Critique and contributed film and TV reviews and pop culture commentary to the websites AfterElton, Tubefilter, among others. He ran the small-but-proud Film@Perelman program and lectured on film at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He regularly produces video projects. He maintains a personal blog, Televisual, which focuses on traditional and new media markets and has been linked to by The Atlantic, Gawker, and MSN, to name a few. He also edits Hacktivision, a blog that explores the future of television. He has offered media commentary for The New York Times, Plain Dealer, The BIO Channel and NPR, among others.
