I am a doctoral student in the Annenberg School for Communication at University of Pennsylvania, focusing on issues of new media and cultural production. I currently research how individuals and organizations create and distribute web series and online personal videos (vlogs). At Penn, I'm also pursuing a certificate in cinema studies, focusing on contemporary American film. Prior to attending graduate school, I worked in journalism, where I did a lot of reporting jobs, starting at New York Press, then onto the Plain Dealer (Cleveland), the Altanta Journal-Constitution, the Washington Post, and finally at Newsweek. I moved on to Dow Jones before attending Penn. I have since been writing about film, television and digital culture for the website Splice Today, edited by Russ Smith (New York Press), and freelancing for publications like BusinessWeek and sites like The Root and the Wall Street Journal. I also curate and lecture on film and video at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I maintain a regular blog, Televisual, which explores visual and American culture, and collaborate on a few documentary film projects on celebrity and contemporary art. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in American Culture. |
